About Protectowear

PROTECTO-WEAR PMB CC was started in June 1980 as the only specialist supplier of safety equipment and protective clothing in Pietermaritzburg. Having spent 5 years working for the National Occupational Safety Association ( NOSA ), as Regional Safety Advisor, Keith Hobday realised that a need existed for a specialised company in the Natal Midlands.

From small beginnings in a rented room of 25 square metres, and a stock of only R 1500.00, PROTECTO-WEAR went about the business of promoting its products to industry. The first 6 years showed a gradual but steady growth and many new stock lines, essential to the well-being of workers in industry, were added to the range of products. Distributorships were acquired for world renowned brand names such as 3M ( respiratory ), Peltor ( hearing ) and Uvex ( eye protection ) to name just a few. A fire extinguisher division, opened in 1986, was sold in 1989 and this step provided the capital to allow the company to expand and become more focused on the safety division.

The following 7 years showed a wonderful growth and at the end of 1996 the company purchased from the landlord its present home, on the corner of Victoria Road and Boshoff Street and further expanded its operation, more than doubling its showroom space and increasing its stockholding substantially.

Protecto-Wear's staff receive on-going instruction in product knowledge and are therefore able to offer in-house training in the correct use of all the safety products supplied. Our store, which is ideally situated in Pietermaritzburg in the Natal Midlands, renders a unique experience to its clients in the sectors of industry, agriculture, mining and commerce.
